Update: Man Found in Pond Behind Publix Is Identified
The man was found in a water retention pond behind a Tamiami Trail grocery store Monday evening, officials said. Police identified the man Tuesday.

Detectives have disclosed the identity of the 56-year-old man found floating and unconscious Monday evening in a water retention pond behind a Sarasota grocery store.
The man is Joseph M. Gorey. He was treated by paramedics, but they were unable to revive him. He was pronounced dead at the scene, behind the Publix at 8409 S. Tamiami Trail.
The death does not appear to be suspicious, detectives said Tuesday, though it is still under investigation.

Deputies responded to the rear of the Publix at 6:30 p.m., where they found an unresponsive man in the water.
There were no obvious signs of death, officials said, but it hasn't yet been determined how the man died.
