Driver Who Hit Pole Dies After Separate Crash With Deputy: Report

Following a crash with a Sarasota County deputy, a driver leaving the University Club died after hitting a telephone pole, a report said.

SARASOTA COUNTY, FL — A Bradenton man driving a pick-up truck was killed in a late Thursday afternoon crash in Sarasota County, according to a Florida Highway Patrol news release.

The crash happened around 5:45 p.m. as the 31-year-old driver left the University Club on Lockwood Ridge Road, just south of DeSoto Road, after being involved in a separate traffic crash.

That initial crash involved a Sarasota County deputy, who was brought to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Fox 13 reported.

After leaving the University Club, the pick-up truck’s driver drove over the grassy median separating the northbound and southbound travel lanes of Lockwood Ridge Road, FHP said.

He then crossed over the road’s southern travel lanes into the grassy shoulder, where he hit a telephone pole head-on, troopers said.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
