Drug Take Back Day Coming To Sarasota County
Pills, tablets and capsules are accepted at law enforcement agencies across the county. Needles and liquids are not accepted.
SARASOTA COUNTY, FL — National Drug Take Back Day is coming to Sarasota County later this month. The event reminds residents to properly dispose of unused drugs before the unthinkable happens.
Although the drug take back event is set for Oct. 24, law enforcement agencies throughout the county offer drug drop boxes year-round.
In a news release, the Sarasota Sheriff announced drug take back boxes are located at at police departments in Sarasota, Venice and North Port. A box is also located at the sheriff's headquarters in Sarasota and is accessible from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily.

Drug take back boxes accept pills, tablets, capsules and other solids. Liquids and needles are not accepted. Drop-offs are always kept anonymous, according to the release.
According to the release, most abused drugs are obtained from family and friends, often from medicine cabinets. Properly disposing of drugs protects both loved ones and the environment, which can suffer if drugs are thrown in the trash or flushed down the toilet.
