Easter Seals South West Florida Wins a Large Grant

The local organization for disabled children and adults was the recipient of a five thousand dollar grant.

The Lakewood Ranch Community Fund selects Easter Seals Southwest Florida as the recipient of a $5,000 grant. The funds will provide support for Project Rainbow, a respite care program that offers home-based care for families in Lakewood Ranch with disabled children

Nicole Murby, Easter Seals Director of Children’s Services says, “the grant funds will allow for families and caregivers with disabled children in Lakewood Ranch the opportunity to receive temporary relief by providing a safe environment where kids have time to be kids and parents and caregivers have time to be independent adults.”

Thanks to the benefits of Project Rainbow, Lakewood Ranch mother’s can enjoy a little extra freedom. “Thank you for this rare and wonderful program. Without my dedicated respite worker, I would be isolated trying to manage my child’s special needs. She is always so cheerful and compassionate that it eases any immediate worries I may have. I am so grateful for this amazing service.”

With Project Rainbow trained respite care workers provide home-based respite care services in 4-hour increments to families of children who are chronically ill, medically fragile and/or developmentally/physically disabled. Project Rainbow staff supervise all of the minors in the home when they provide the respite care, not just the child with special needs. Project Rainbow also provides monthly community-based Kids Night Out respite and special events for children and their families.
