Fallen Sarasota Officer Remembered During National Police Week
National Police Week gets under way, with a national "virtual" roll call of the fallen officers in every state. The memorial includes a tribute page to a fallen officer in Sarasota, Florida.

National Police Week kicks off this week, with a remembrance virtually of fallen officers across the United States, including 762 in Florida.
The virtual national roll call includes a young Sarasota police officer who died in the line of duty from "gun fire," according to the Officer Down Memorial Page. The website includes a comprehensive, state-by-state list of fallen officers in the line of duty.
Officer Warren David Jones of the Sarasota Police Dept. died on April 5, 1975. "Cause: Gunfire." Jones was shot by a man allegedly trying to steal gas. The suspect grabbed the 25-year-old officer's handgun and shot him. When Officer Jones tried to make it back to his patrol car to call for help, the suspect beat him with his police flashlight. The officer was able to finally call for help. He died later at a local hospital.
