Five Things: Today's the Day for Republicans

Florida's registered Republicans will have the opportunity today to vote for their preference to be the party's presidential nominee.

1. If you're one of Sarasota County's 120,035 registered Republicans, today's the day to choose your preference for your party's presidential nominee. Check out our , and visit our running chat/blog for results and news. You can also weigh in anytime today during the chat.

2. Something to consider about today's election: Sarasota is considered one of Florida's three bellwether counties by a Suffolk University poll — meaning as the county goes, so does the state. With that, Mitt Romney topped Newt Gingrich in Sarasota County, according to Suffolk's poll, 52 percent to 24 percent. Martin and Volusia counties are the other bellwether counties.

3. Procastinators have some bad news: You're probably not getting into see Willie Nelson and Friends at on Saturday. Tickets are sold out, but you can call the box office at 953-3368 to be put on a wait list.

4. is inviting the community out for Ringling Underground: Art After 5 on Thursday, featuring live music, art exhibits, interactive art, cash bar and more. It's free for students from Florida State University, , , and ; $5 ages 6-17 and college students with ID; and $10 adults.

5. Sometimes Valentine's Day gifts are about the moment. Sarasota County is inviting couples to renew their wedding vows on America's No. 1 Beach, Siesta Key Beach, on Valentine's Day for $5. Following the ceremony, couples will receive a commemorative certificate and enjoy ceremonial wedding cake from Beautiful Cakes by Ron. For more information, contact the Sarasota County Call Center at 941-861-5000 and ask about “Say I Do Again.”
