Fourth of July Closures

Most government offices will be closed in Sarasota to celebrate Independence Day.

Most government offices will be closed in Sarasota County to observe Independence Day.

City of Sarasota administration offices will be closed Wednesday, July 4, 2012 in observance of Independence Day.  The closing affects City Hall, the Federal Building and Public Works. 

Solid waste, yard waste and recycling collection will not be impacted.

The Steigerwaldt-Jockey Children’s Fountain, located in Bayfront Park, will be closed for the day.

County offices will also be closed. SCAT buses will not run, so plan accordingly. Payne Park Tennis Center will be open from 7:30 a.m.-2 p.m. and the Arlington Park Recreation Center will be open from noon-5 p.m.

The following streets will be closed tonight for the Bayfront fireworks:

  • Bayfront Drive (US 41), from Gulfstream Avenue to Orange Avenue will close at 7:00 p.m. and will remain closed until approximately 10 p.m. 
  • Parking Lot at Bayfront Park/ Island Park will be closed when the parking lot has reached maximum capacity.
  • Palm Avenue Garage – located on Palm Avenue, between Main Street and Cocoanut Avenue, 700 free parking spaces.  Expect delays when exiting due to heavy traffic.
  • Traffic leaving the Bayfront/ Downtown area following the July 4 Fireworks will be subject to "certain restricted traffic control measures as part of a comprehensive exit plan," according to Sarasota Police Department.  Expect long traffic delays upon exit from the event area.
