Fruitville Road Open After Fatal Crash

SARASOTA, FL — The Florida Highway Patrol has announced the reopening of Fruitville Road following a fatal Thursday morning crash. Troopers say all westbound lanes on Fruitville Road and exit ramp lanes from northbound Interstate 75 were accessible as of 9:57 a.m. June 1.

The crash occurred around 4:38 a.m. June 1 as a semi-truck was heading north in the center lane of the Interstate 75 exit ramp south of Fruitville Road. Troopers say the truck's driver failed to negotiate a turn onto Fruitville Road properly, causing the truck to overturn.

The truck's driver was killed in the crash. Further information, including the driver's name, is not yet available.
