Girlfriend Charged In Murder of Newtown Man

Sarasota Police have charged the longtime girlfriend of a Newtown man with murder after investigating his death Tuesday morning.

Police responded to 1509 25th St., at 1:39 a.m. and found James Vernon West, 51, at his home and classified his death as a murder, according to police.

Following the investigation, Tracey Lynn Walls, 38, a longtime girlfriend of West, was charged with murder and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, according to police.

Walls is being held without bound at Sarasota County Jail.
