Gun Fired Near Sarasota City Hall; Police Suspect Suicide

SARASOTA, FL — Sarasota police suspect a person was trying to take their own life Wednesday when at least one gunshot rang out near Orange Avenue and First Street not far from Sarasota City Hall.

"The person is deceased," explained Genevieve Judge of the Sarasota Police Department.

Judge said there was no further threat to the area.

"The weapon that was used is secure," she said. It does not appear that this happened at City Hall or on city of Sarasota property.‬"

Judge said the incident happened on a sidewalk.

"The individual was across the street from city hall but it does not appear to have happened at city hall or on city of Sarasota property," she added.

Traffic was diverted for a time in the area.
