Man Charged For Burglarizing Employer For Scrap Metal

Travis Scott King, 28, of 3209 Oak Grove Drive, Sarasota, faces felony charges for burglary and possession of burglary tools, according to the sheriff's office.

A employee trying to break into his own -place of work to take scrap metal was caught in the act early Wednesday morning, according to Sarasota County Sheriff's Office.

A deputy on routine patrol around 4 a.m., noticed a suspicious Toyota Tacoma truck behind Complete Aluminum on Barber Road and saw a man later identified as King walking along the fence line, according to the probable cause affidavit.

When the deputy pulled up King ran to the truck and tried to leave. The deputy stopped King and found several pieces of scrap and aluminum window frames in the back of the truck, and a number of other pieces in the storage yard near the gate. An employee of the business responded to the scene, identified King and confirmed the stolen items belonged to the business, according to the affidavit. 

King's 2002 Toyota truck was also seized for forfeiture since it was used in commission of a felony, according to the sheriff's office.

King also violated his probation, according to the sheriff's office, as King faces his 25th arrest in Sarasota County for burglary-related charges dating back to when he was 15 years old.
