Man Drowns In Sarasota Bay

The drowning was reported just after 12 p.m. on Wednesday.

SARASOTA, FL — A man drowned in the Sarasota Bay on Wednesday, police said.

The drowning happened just after noon near Centennial Park and the 10th Street boat ramp area. Police say officers responded to the area for a report of two swimmers in distress.

Police said two men went swimming in the bay for an unknown amount of time. According to police, the two lost each other in the water and one of them found the other unconscious in the water. A passing boat noticed the men and called 911.

When authorities responded, they found one man alive and the other was deceased. Police say the man who died was in his mid-50s.

The Sarasota police criminal investigation division has taken over the investigation. No foul play is suspected.
