NORTH PORT, FL — A Bradenton man robbed two children he met online at gunpoint in North Port on Wednesday, authorities said.

Investigators tracked Alexander Gonzalez to Bradenton, North Port police said.

He was arrested with help from the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office.

“To anyone thinking they can come into our city and commit crimes, think again. We will go to great lengths to find and hold accountable anyone who threatens the safety of our community, especially our children,” Chief Todd Garrison said.

Gonzalez, who is in the Manatee County Jail, is facing charges of grand theft and robbery with a firearm.

Neither child, whose ages weren’t disclosed, were injured.
