Missing Sheriff's Cattle Dog Last Seen in Sarasota

Doc, who works with the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, escaped from his special trailer on Interstate 75 near the Fruitville Road exit Saturday. A $500 reward is being offered.

Update, Feb. 19: The missing cattle dog may have been picked up by a passing motorist and taken to a Tampa home, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office reports. The dog is still missing.

A reward has been offered for a cattle dog who works with the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office and was last seen in Sarasota over the weekend.

"Doc," a mixed breed cattle dog, escaped from his special trailer as it headed north on Interstate 75 near the Fruitville Road exit around 11:30 a.m. on Feb. 16, officials said.

Doc was personally paid for by a an agriculture detective who uses him while working to help herd loose cows off the roadways, officials said.

"He is a personal dog but somewhat of the HCSO Agriguclutre Unit's mascot," a Hillsborough sheriff's office spokesperson said.

Doc weighs about 60 pounds and is very friendly, authorities said. A $500 reward is being offered.
