MLK Jr. Garden Rejuvenated at Booker Elementary
Emma E. Booker Elementary students are breathing new life into its Martin Luther King Jr. Butterfly Garden.

Emma E. Booker Elementary celebrated the rejuvenation Wednesday of the school’s Martin Luther King Jr. Butterfly Garden by unveiling a new banner created from student artwork; the banner hangs on a wall next to the garden.
The garden was originally planted in 1995. In 2011 the school received a grant from the Junior League of Sarasota; members of the service organization added “butterfly-friendly” plants to the garden late last year.
In celebration of February as Black History Month the school added the banner, which showcases portraits of the slain civil rights leader created by students and a quote from King: “The time is always right to do what is right.” Signs Now, one of the school’s business partners, created the sign for the cost of the materials.
