Motorcyclist, 18, Killed In U.S. 41 Crash: FL Highway Patrol

An 18-year-old motorcyclist died in a U.S. 41 crash with an SUV in Sarasota County, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

LAUREL, FL — An 18-year-old motorcyclist was killed in a crash with an SUV on U.S. 41 Monday afternoon in Sarasota County, according to a Florida Highway Patrol news release.

The Sarasota teen was speeding on his motorcycle while heading south on U.S. 41 in an outside lane, north of Lychee Road, just before 5 p.m.

The SUV was heading north on U.S. 41 in the left turn lane at the intersection of Lychee Road at the same time.

When the SUV tried to make a left turn, the motorcyclist hit its right side, FHP said.

After the crash, the teen was separated from his motorcycle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The SUV’s driver, an 83-year-old Nokomis man, and his passenger, an 80-year-old Nokomis woman, were seriously injured in the crash and brought to an area hospital.
