Motorcyclist Killed in Sarasota Traffic Crash
The 26-year-old was not wearing a helmet and was turning at an intersection as the signal turned red, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

A Sarasota motorcyclist was killed when he crashed into another vehicle while making a turn through a red light at an intersection Monday afternoon, authorities said.
Michael S. Hicks, 26, was headed northbound on Swift Road in his 2011 Suzuki motorcycle when he made a left turn onto Bee Ridge Road, Florida Highway Patrol investigators said.
According to witnesses, Hicks went through the intersection as the signal turned red, the FHP report said.

Hicks' motorcycle crashed into the right side of a Dodge Dakota as it was coming from the opposite direction and making a left turn onto Bee Ridge Road.
Hicks, who was not wearing a helmet, was airlifted to Blake Medical Center in Bradenton with critical injuries and later died, authorities said.

The driver of the Dodge, 33-year-old James B. McFarland, of Sarasota, and a 38-year-old female passenger were taken to Sarasota Memorial Hospital with minor injuries, the report states.
No charges had been filed, investigators said Monday.
