Motorcyclist Killed In Sarasota Crash

A motorcyclist was killed early Saturday when their motorcycle crossed into opposing traffic and was struck by another vehicle.

SARASOTA, FL --A motorcyclist was killed early Saturday when their motorcycle crossed into opposing traffic and was struck by another vehicle. The crash occurred at Siesta Drive and Higel Avenue shortly after 12 a.m., acccording to the Sarasota Police Department.

The agency’s Genevieve Judge said that police were withholding the name of the victim pending notification of next of kin.

The intersection was closed for about five hours as a result of the crash.

“Just after midnight, a motorcyclist was traveling northbound on Higel Avenue and lost control of the motorcycle,” Judge said. The driver of the motorcycle was then struck by another vehicle that was traveling southbound.”

Judge said she did not know the cause of the crash.

“It is unknown if speed, drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash,” Judge added. “The crash remains under investigation by the Sarasota Police Department Traffic Unit.”
