National Holiday For Sarasota's Randy 'Macho Man' Savage?

A White House petition needs 100,000 signatures to have President Barack Obama's staff review a request to make a national holiday honoring Randy "Macho Man" Savage."

Snap into this, Sarasota: A legitimate push is being made to have a national holiday to honor the late Randy "Macho Man" Savage.

Mandatory.com is garnering support to petition the White House to make May 20 a Macho Holiday, if you will, to honor Randy Savage. Savage, whose real name was .

The petition needs 100,000 signatures by April 4, 2013, and is a long way from garnering support. It needs 96,363 people willing to move it to the next level on the White House's petition website.

"Macho Man Randy Savage was a national treasure loved by everyone who watched him on television or knew him personally. No matter if you knew him from Slim Jim commercials or his wrestling career, you felt a deep connection with Savage. Tragically, the world lost him on May 20, 2011. This petition is to set aside that day every year as a celebration and remembrance of the Macho Man's life and to keep his legacy alive for future generations to appreciate and enjoy."

Savage was billed as being from Sarasota throughout his career. He graduated from Downers Grove High School in Illinois and was on his way to play professional ball, and spent time in Sarasota in 1973 with the St. Louis Cardinals' Gulf Coast League farm team.

Instead of swinging bats, the Macho Man later opted to swing fists in professional wrestling, becoming a marquee name in the Word Wrestling Federation (now World Wresting Entertainment).

Macho Man's brother Lanny Poffo told TMZ that he loves the idea: 

"The fans will never let Randy Die. He made it cool to love wrestling." 

If the petition makes it to the 100,000 for President Barack Obama's staff to review, one could only imagine Macho Man fans screaming out an "Ohhhhh yeeeeaaaah."
