Ousted Sarasota County Schools Superintendent Lands New Job: Report

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, FL — Dr. Brennan Asplen, recently forced to resign as Sarasota County Schools superintendent by a slate of newly elected conservative board members, has returned to St. Johns County School District.

Asplen has returned to his position as deputy director in the district, a role he held before moving to Sarasota County, the Sarasota Herald-Tribune reported.

"I was fortunate to be offered many different opportunities," he wrote in a statement. "However, at the end of the day, Mari Ellen and I both agreed that our hearts and passion were still invested in serving in education and that returning to St Johns County School District was where we needed to be."

He stepped down from his role as superintendent in Sarasota County at the end of last year. His separation agreement was approved at the board’s Dec. 14 meeting.

Last week, Dr. Allison Foster, executive director of human resources and labor relations for Sarasota County Schools, was named interim superintendent.
