Pedestrian Fatally Struck By Truck In Sarasota

SARASOTA, FL — A pedestrian was fatally hit by a truck Tuesday night while crossing a road in Sarasota.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the collision happened shortly after 10:30 p.m. near the intersection of State Road 776 and Cowles Street.

Police said a truck driven by a 43-year-old Venice man was traveling north on SR-776 when it struck a woman attempting to cross the road from the west side.

The pedestrian — a 38-year-old woman from Rotunda West — was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The crash remains under investigation.
