Pedestrian Struck, Critically Hurt While Crossing Bee Ridge Rd.

A pedestrian was critically injured when he was struck by a pickup truck near the intersection of Beneva and Bee Ridge roads Saturday night in Sarasota, investigators said.
Bryan Lee Petersen, 21, of Sarasota, was crossing the eastbound lanes of Bee Ridge outside the marked crosswalk around 8:17 p.m., according to a Florida Highway Patrol report.
Petersen failed to yield to the right of way and was struck by a 1997 Dodge Ram 1500 that was headed east, investigators said.

He suffered critical injuries and was taken to Blake Medical Center in Bradenton.
The truck's driver, 24-year-old Thomas Allen Koon of Sarasota, and a 37-year-old passenger were unhurt, the report states.

No charges were immediately filed, pending further investigation.
