UPDATE: Standoff Ends After Suspect Couldn't Be Found
Sarasota Police Department and a SWAT team responded to a standoff on Bougainvillea Street where officers thought a bank robbery suspect locked himself inside of his home, but he wasn't found.

are searching for a Wells Fargo bank robbery suspect after they couldn't find him inside his home Friday evening on the 2300 block of Bougainvillea Street.
It all started at 4 p.m. when the Wells Fargo Bank at 2891 S. Tamiami Trail in Sarasota was robbed. The man, identified as 52-year-old James William Holderman entered the bank and presented a note demanding cash and implying that he had a weapon, police said.

Holderman is a convicted felon with multiple previous convictions for armed robbery, police said.
After police identified Holderman as the suspect, they went to his home on Bougainvillea Street, which is less than a half-mile from the bank.

The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office assited during the search, deploying a helicopter, a K-9 uni and helpled establishing a perimeter and kept residents away from the action.
Officers surrounded the suspect’s home, evacuated nearby residents, and set up a perimeter around the home. There was no response to the repeated attempts to make contact with anyone inside of the residence, police said.
Sarasota Police Department SWAT officers secured the scene until an arrest warrant and search warrant were obtained, and once the warrant was in hand, the officers searched the home only to find nobody there.
Police say Holderman is a convicted felon with multiple previous convictions for armed robbery.
The Herald-Tribune spoke to neighbors who said Holderman was having a tough go of it lately:
"Anne Hazell, who lived next door to Holderman for a decade, said he had lost his general contracting business in the recession and his home was in foreclosure. The neighbors used to hang out together, she said, until he started taking a bad turn when his wife left him and his daughter took away his 7-year-old granddaughter.
"It was a series of unfortunate downturns for him," Hazell said. "It's sad. He lived and breathed for her. He was such a nice guy."
Another neighbor, Theresa Duncan, said Holderman had lost weight recently and borrowed several hundred dollars that he had yet to pay back."
