While the nation reflects on the tragedy of 9/11, it also must acknowledge the heroes whose brave efforts created Patriot Day.

Born out of tragedy are great moments, and that's why despite the horror of Sept. 11, 2001, the nation focuses on the brave heroes today.

It's why Congress created Patriot Day — to help remember those who sacrificed their lives for total strangers that day, or fought overseas for their loved ones and our continued freedom.
