Road Closures Set For 2017 Veterans Day Parade

'We Can Do It!' is the theme for the 2017 Sarasota Veterans Day Parade.

SARASOTA, FL – The City of Sarasota has announced which streets in downtown will be closed ahead of the 2017 Sarasota Veterans Day Parade.

For the annual parade, co-hosted by the City of Sarasota and the Sarasota Patriotic Observance Committee, the following streets will be closed:

  • 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. – Main Street from U.S. 301 to Mira Mar Court
  • 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. – Osprey Avenue from Fruitville Road to Ringling Boulevard
  • 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. – Links Avenue from Fruitville Road to Ringling Boulevard
  • 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. – Central Avenue from Main Street to First Street
  • 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. – First Street from Pineapple Avenue to Central Avenue
  • 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. – Pineapple Avenue from State Street to First Street

Vehicles not removed by 8 a.m. will be towed at the owner’s expense. For more information on towed vehicles, call Upman’s Towing at (941) 365-7084.

The parade is scheduled to start at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 11 at the corner of Main Street and Osprey Avenue. The parade will end about 11 a.m. at Chaplain J.D. Hamel Park, at the corner of Main Street and Gulfstream Avenue, where a ceremony will take place.

The theme for this year’s parade and ceremony is “We Can Do It!” celebrating the phrase made popular on the famous Rosie the Riveter World War II posters.
