UPDATE: Santorum Cancels Sarasota Appearance

GOP presidential candidate Rick Santorum canceled his Sarasota appearance Sunday to tend to ailing daughter, but his rally will go on.

Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum has canceled his appearance at a Sunday afternoon rally at , but the rally will go on as scheduled, according to the Sarasota County Republican Club.

The Associated Press reported Saturday that Santorum's "Meet The Press" appearance on NBC is canceled for Sunday along with a church service in Miami, but his Sarasota and Punta Gorda appearances were not initially canceled.

The Sarasota GOP sent out an e-mail update at 10:26 a.m. Sunday saying Santorum will stay behind to be with his daughter Isabella, who is 3 years old and suffers from Trisomy-18 — a genetic defect giving her an extra chromosome. It's a situation Santorum has discussed before on the campaign trail, as website The Blaze notes.

Santorum's daughter Elizabeth Santorum will give a national campaign update at today's rally, and Florida campaign chairman Jesse Biter will give a Florida campaign update, according to the Sarasota County GOP.

Members of the Duggar family, which has their own show on TLC, will also speak at the rally.

Santorum spokesman Hogan Gidley told Politico that the return home and Santorum's other scheduling conflicts in Florida, does not mean he's giving up his campaign:

"Gidley said nothing more should be read into Santorum's scaled-back schedule, explaining: "No one is getting out.""

Santorum's Sarasota rally is scheduled to start at 2 p.m., and more than 1,700 people are expected to attend, according to the Sarasota County Republican Club. Tickets are still available on the club's website.
