Sarasota Cops Set To Tweet From The Beat

Sarasota residents are invited to "ride-along" with local police as they tweet from the beat.

SARASOTA, FL — Sarasota area residents who want to know what it’s like to protect and serve the city will get a chance to take a virtual ride-along this Thursday. One of the Sarasota Police Department’s night shift officers is gearing up to “Tweet from the Beat.”

The semi-regular program offered by the police department enables its followers on Twitter to experience life on the beat 140 characters at a time. This installment begins on Twitter at 5:30 p.m. July 20 as patrol Officer Laura Bobitz will begin sharing “what she says and does through texts, videos, GIFs and various photos,” the agency explained in an email.

Genevieve Judge, the agency’s communications coordinator, will receive information from Bobitz as she’s on patrol and tweet on her behalf. People may “ride along” by following @SarasotaPD on Twitter. Followers will also be able to ask questions.

Tweet from the Beat began in November 2013 and has been a regular feature of the agency’s outreach efforts ever since. The agency has more than 27,000 followers on Twitter. To join them, check out the Sarasota Police Department’s Twitter page.
