Sarasota Cops Set To ‘Tweet From The Boat’

The Sarasota Police Department is putting a spin on its popular Tweet from the Beat virtual ride-along.

SARASOTA, FL — The Sarasota Police Department is getting ready to dive in for another Tweet from the Beat social media event. This time, however, the agency is putting a spin on the popular virtual ride-along concept by giving folks a chance to experience life on the job for the members of its marine patrol unit.

"Tweet from the Boat" is set to kick off at 7:30 a.m. Friday, April 14. To “ride-along,” folks will need to follow @SarasotaPD on Twitter. Marine Patrol Officer Michael Skinner is all set to share what happens during the course of his day on the water by sending texts, videos, GIFs and photos. The agency’s communications coordinator will act as the intermediary during the event, tweeting on Skinner’s behalf.

“We are fortunate in the City of Sarasota to have boating weather pretty much year round,” Skinner said. “However, this is the time of year that we start to see boating traffic increase on the water and people begin to prep their boats for the upcoming Memorial Day holiday. Carelessness and not paying attention are the leading causes of boating accidents. We want to keep boaters, their families and friends safe.”
