Sarasota Man Accused Of Shooting Near Boat Ramps

SARASOTA, FL — A 46-year-old Sarasota man was taken into custody Monday in connection with an earlier shooting that stemmed from an apparent disagreement.

Kurt Jacobsen was charged with aggravated battery following the shooting in the 1000 block of North Tamiami Trail. The incident happened around 4:30 p.m. near the boat ramps.

"When officers arrived, they made contact with an adult male shooting victim, who was transported to Sarasota Memorial Hospital," explained Lt. Robert Armstrong of the Sarasota Police Department. "The victim did have a single gunshot wound and would be expected to survive the injuries."

Armstrong said Jacobsen was arrested during a traffic stop shortly after the shooting on North Tamiani Trail and 9th Street.

He said Jacobsen was taken into custody without incident.

"Detectives from the Criminal Investigations Unit began their investigation, interviewed witnesses and developed probable cause to arrest Jacobsen," Armstrong said.

He said Jacobsen and the victim were involved in "some type of dispute" which led to the shooting but he did not elaborate.
