Sarasota Man Blamed In Deaths of Pregnant Woman, Unborn Baby

A 23-year-old Sarasota man has been blamed in the deaths of his unborn child and the child's mother.

SARASOTA, FL — A 23-year-old Sarasota man has been blamed in the deaths of his unborn child and the child's mother.

Casey Swart was charged with one count of manslaughter and one count of manslaughter/killing of an unborn child by injury to mother in connection to Monday's death of Swart's girlfriend and their unborn baby.

Genevieve Judge of the Sarasota Police Department said the woman was nine months pregnant when she was found by police around 7:30 p.m. at a home in the 300 block of Osprey Avenue.

"When Officers arrived, they found Swart pacing in the living room and spontaneously stated, 'oh my God. I can’t believe it. Oh my God. I went too far.'"

The woman, who was not immediately identified by Sarasota police, was taken to Sarasota Memorial Hospital where she and her unborn child were pronounced dead.

"Officers believe Swart purchased Fentanyl and shared it with his girlfriend which contributed to a medical episode," police explained. "Toxicology reports and a report from the medical examiner will determine the final cause of death."

Judge said police are withholding information about the woman and her unborn child under Marsy’s Law.
