Sarasota Man Tried to Strangle Girlfriend, Police Allege

The 26-year-old faces multiple charges in connection to the incident, which took place on Bradenton Beach.

A 26-year-old Sarasota man faces domestic battery and other charges, after Bradenton Beach police say he tried to strangle his girlfriend.

Zavian Benson was arrested May 6 on a charge of felony domestic battery by strangulation, felony tampering with a witness and misdemeanor criminal mischief, according to the Islander.

Benson placed his arm around the woman's throat and accused her of cheating on him, while the two were in the 300 block of 10th Avenue in Bradenton Beach, according to police. He also broke her cell phone, when she tried to call police.

Benson was booked into the Manatee County Jail. He will be arraigned on Friday, May 31.
