ICYMI: Sarasota Scores Big In 2017 Best Schools Rankings

SARASOTA, FL — When it comes to standardized test scores, student-teacher ratios and other factors that help define quality in education, some schools simply perform better than others.

To put a spotlight on those who do public education right, the website Niche.com takes a look each years at metrics as student diversity, teacher quality, test scores and classroom size to develop rankings of the best public elementary schools across the country and state.

The website itself was founded in 2002 by students from Carnegie Mellon University to provide reviews and information about colleges, public schools, neighborhoods and more.

Its 2017 Best Public Schools in Florida rankings were recently released. Only one local school managed to crack the state’s Top 10 list – Fruitville Elementary School in Sarasota. Other Sarasota area public schools, however, earned high marks in the Top 100 ranking list for the state.

Here are the schools from Sarasota that earned ranking in the Top 100 for Florida:

• Southside Elementary School, Sarasota, No. 11
• Ashton Elementary School, Sarasota, No. 15
• Bay Haven School of Basics Plus, Sarasota, No. 18
• Lakeview Elementary School, Sarasota, No. 19
• Phillippi Shores Elementary School, Sarasota, No. 29
• Tatum Ridge Elementary School, Sarasota, No. 31
• Gulf Gate Elementary School, Sarasota, No. 58
• Imagine School Palmer Ranch, Sarasota, No. 60
• Sarasota Suncoast Academy, Sarasota, No. 63
• Brentwood Elementary School, Sarasota, No. 68
• Two schools in Tampa also earned a place in the Top 100 list. They are:
• Tampa Palms Elementary School, Tampa, No. 80
• MacFarlane Park Magnet School, Tampa, No. 87
