Sarasota Shooting Under Investigation

Sarasota Police say a 19-year-old man was shot Monday morning in the area of 25th Street and Leon Avenue.

SARASOTA, FL — The Sarasota Police Department is investigating a shooting that left a 19-year-old man injured Monday morning.

According to the agency, police were called to an area near 25th Street and Leon Avenue just before noon Feb. 27. When they arrived, they found Malik Henry suffering from a gunshot wound.

Henry was taken to a local hospital for treatment of injuries believed to not be life-threatening, an email from police said.

“The public is not in any danger,” the email stressed. “Detective do not believe this incident was a random act of violence.”

Police say Henry has not been able to provide any suspect information at this time.
