Sarasota State Senator Wants To Eliminate Daylight Saving Time

If approved by the Legislature and signed by the governor, the bill would go into effect Jan. 1, 2019.

SARASOTA - A Sarasota state senator has filed a bill that would eliminate daylight saving time. Sen. Greg Steube, R-Sarasota, filed a bill (Senate Bill 858) on Nov. 13 that would exempt the state from daylight saving time, requiring that the state observe standard time.

If approved by the Legislature and signed by the governor, it would go into effect on Jan. 1, 2019. The bill has been referred to committee, but no hearings have been held. Hawaii and Arizona are currently the only two states that do not observe daylight saving time.
