Sarasota Superintendent Finalist Withdraws Application
Three other finalists remain in the running for the position as the head of Sarasota County Schools.

SARASOTA, FL – One of the four finalists selected to interview for the soon-to-be vacated superintendent’s position for the Sarasota County School District has withdrawn his application.
Andrew Rynberg notified the Sarasota County School District he withdrew his name from consideration for the superintendent’s job for personal reasons by letter on the afternoon of Friday, Sept. 23. Rynberg is a former assistant superintendent of curriculum and instruction with the Indian River County School District in Vero Beach.

- Todd Bowden, executive director of career, technical and adult education, Sarasota County Schools
- Mark Porter, superintendent, Monroe County Schools (Key West)
- Brennan Asplen III, deputy superintendent for academic and student services, St. Johns County (St. Augustine)
The board will conduct public interviews on Oct. 12. The public is invited to observe the interviews at the School Board chambers at The Landings, 1960 Landings Blvd. in Sarasota. The public interviews also will be streamed live on the district website at SarasotaCountySchools.net and broadcast live on The Education Channel (Comcast 20 and Frontier FiOS 33).
The Sarasota County School Board is scheduled to interview the candidates on Wednesday, Oct. 12 and Thursday, Oct. 13. The Education Foundation of Sarasota County will host a public reception at Riverview High School, 1 Ram Way in Sarasota, on the evening of Oct. 13. The board plans to appoint the new superintendent on Tuesday, Oct. 18.

The district received 49 applications for the superintendent’s job. A 15-member community advisory committee recommended eight semifinalists to the board on Sept. 1. The board approved that list at its Sept. 6 meeting.
The new superintendent will succeed Lori White, who is scheduled to retire on Tuesday, Feb. 28.
