Sheriff's Office Investigating Sarasota Springs Battery

Several shots were fired at the 3500 block of Lokai Place but no injuries from the gun were reported, but detectives are investigating a child abuse case at the residence.

An 18-year-old man is facing several charges including battery, firing gun shots in Sarasota Springs and additional charges in Palmetto. 

The responded at 5:06 p.m. Monday to the 3500 block of Lokai Place for a reported shooting where they say Hayden Litz, 18, had leaned out of a car and shot several rounds at a 19-year-old male outside of the home before driving away, according to the sheriff's office. Nobody was injured in the shooting, according to the sheriff's office. 

The incident started when Litz had slept in the man's bed after being invited into the home by the victim's roommate, according to sheriff's detectives. The victim's child climbed onto the bed with Litz and Litz struck the child, according to the sheriff's office.

"A verbal argument ensued and the victim was asked to leave, which he did," according to a flash report issued by the sheriff's office.  

After the shooting, the suspect drove away and was caught by the Palmetto Police Department and faces charges there for burglary with a firearm, according to the sheriff's office.
