Siesta Key Bridge Worker Knocked Into Bay

Police are asking the public to help locate a burgundy Lexus, with front-end damage, involved in the hit-and-run collision.

are asking the public to help locate a Lexus that knocked a construction worker over the north Siesta Bridge early Wednesday.

At about 2:20 a.m. Larry Norris, 60, was struck by a construction barrel that was hit by a four-door burgundy Lexus and fell about 15 feet over the north Siesta Bridge, according to police.

Norris was part of the crew working on the bridge, police said.

Norris was treated by Sarasota County Rescue and transported by ambulance to Sarasota Memorial Hospital for his injuries.

The car apparently struck several traffic drums while fleeing the scene, according to police.

The Lexus likely has front-end and passenger-side damage, according to police. The car was last seen on Midnight Pass Road. 

Anyone with information on the hit and run vehicle or a possible driver is asked to contact Sgt. Resch of the Sarasota Police Department Traffic Unit at 941-364-7323.
