Siesta Key Drowning Under Investigation
The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office is investigating the death of a woman at Siesta Key on Wednesday.

SARASOTA, FL — The Wednesday afternoon death of a woman at Siesta Key is under investigation by the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office.
According to the agency, beachgoers found an unresponsive woman floating face down in the water on the south side of Point of Rocks Beach around 2 p.m. May 10. Deputies say lifeguards and first responders were notified and began lifesaving attempts to no avail.
Deputies say their preliminary investigation showed the woman was snorkeling with her husband when the incident occurred. The case has been classified as a drowning, but an official cause of death is not yet available.

While authorities have not yet released the woman’s name, the sheriff’s office said she and her husband are from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The two were on vacation when the incident occurred.
