Suncoast Super Strings 2016-17 Taking Applications

Sarasota, FL – Young violinists from across Florida will have a chance of a lifetime once again to hone their skills with one of the world’s most famous string instrumentalists this winter.

Suncoast Super Strings brings together violinists from ages 8 to 18 to play a select musical composition with the Perlman Music Program String Orchestra under the direction of internationally acclaimed violinist and conductor, Itzhak Perlman. Preparatory workshops with local music instructions will be held to support participating violinists.

This will be the fourth presentation of the PMP/Suncoast Super Strings by the Perlman Music Program Sarasota Winter Residency. The program is open to all Florida residents in the age category.

Applications must submit a completed application, a recommendation letter and a video audition MP4 file. The composition to be performed is Johann Sebastian Bach’s Concerto for Two Violins in D minor, movement 3, solo line Violin 1 or Violin 2.

The deadline to apply online is Monday, Sept. 5. Mailed applications must be postmarked by Aug. 31.

Administrative fees for those who pass the audition are $50 per student for Manatee County and Sarasota County residents and $100 per student for all other Florida residents. Scholarship support is available on a need basis.

Other important dates for the Suncoast Super Strings 2016-17 include:

• Early October – Invitations to participate will be sent out
• Saturday, Nov. 12 – Workshop, parent and student orientation
• Between Dec. 28 and Jan. 1 (TBD) – Performance

Suncoast Super Strings events are tentatively scheduled to be on the USF Sarasota-Manatee campus, 8350 N. Tamiami Trail in Sarasota. The location is subject to change, but all events will take place in Sarasota or Manatee counties.
