'Suspicious Device' Deemed Safe Outside Sarasota Walgreens

What police are describing as a "suspicious device" was found outside a Walgreens late Tuesday morning. The device was later deemed safe.

SARASOTA, FL — What police are describing as a "suspicious device" was found outside a Walgreens late Tuesday morning. After evacuating the store, Sarasota police found that the device did not pose a threat. The store is located at 3535 North Tamiami Trail.

The device was determined to be an empty pressure cooker, according to Genevieve Judge of the Sarasota Police Department.

"Officers with the Sarasota Police Department are currently investigating a suspicious device that was located this morning at approximately 11:30 a.m. outside Walgreens,"Judge said earlier on Tuesday.

"As a precaution, the store is being evacuated and members of the Sarasota Police Explosive Materials Unit have arrived on scene to examine the device with specialized equipment," she said adding that the Walgreens was cleared to reopen.
