Earlier: A reported domestic violence situation resulting in a standoff has prompted Sarasota law enforcement to block off streets in a Central Cocoanut neighborhood.
Sarasota Police responded to the 1300 block of 12 Street at 1:34 p.m. today for a domestic violence situation, according to 911 dispatch reports, but afterward, the situation has apparently escalated as the SWAT team responded.

Streets are closed off between Central Avenue and Cocoanut Avenue in Sarasota near 12th Street.
The suspect had apparently pushed a victim, a woman, out of the home earlier today, and the situation is developing, The Herald-Tribune reports:

Sarasota County Commissioner Carolyn Mason now says there was a woman in the home with the suspect, but that she was pushed out a door by the suspect earlier.
SWAT team members on the scene told the suspect just prior to 4 p.m. that he must come out of the home or they were going in to get him.
Mason said police told her the man is a fugitive from Michigan.
