Trump Gives A Shout Out To Sarasota GOP

Donald Trump, the recipient of the Republican Party of Sarasota Statesman of the Year award, also says the Republican National Committee "want me" to speak at the convention.

The Republican Party of Sarasota County received a shout-out from Donald Trump, who added he'd love to speak at the Republican National Convention in Tampa.

Trump will come to the  on Aug. 26 to receive the the local GOP party gives out each year, and ever since the announcement, speculation grew whether The Don would be invited to speak at the Republican National Convention in Tampa from Aug. 27 to 30.

Fox & Friends host Brian Kilmeade asked Trump Monday if he'd have a role at the RNC, which turned into a nice hat tip to Sarsota:

"Well, I know they want me to. I'll see what happens," Trump said. "They're giving me something the night before in Sarasota, Florida. Now, you have to understand this was I'm sure in some eyes well deserved — but they're giving me the Statesman of the Year Award on the evening before the Convention. 

"I'm very honored by that," Trump continued. "That's the Sarasota Republican Party."

"It's great. Florida," Trump added.

The interview on Fox & Friends, was part a little Celebrity Apprentice with actress Carol Alt taking a trip back memory lane with her time on the show, and part politics discussing Mitt Romney's disclosing tax returns in exchange for Barack Obama revealing his passport and college records.

Trump's presence is proving to be huge for the Sarasota event, Sarasota GOP Chairman Joe Gruters told HTPolitics:

“This will be the best event we’ve ever had,” Gruters said.

Tickets are still available for the dinner, ranging from $150 to $1,000 per person.
