Update: U.S. 301 Re-Opens After Motorcycle Crash

Northbound lanes near a busy intersection were shut down for two hours, to allow for a flight team to airlift the crash victim to a hospital.

Update: The road was re-opened after 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 11.

A "serious" motorcycle crash has shut down the northbound lanes of U.S. 301 at Fruitville Road in Sarasota, according to police. (For details on the crash victim, see 57-Year-Old Motorcyclist Injured in Morning Crash.)

The crash happened sometime between 6 and 6:30 a.m. Tuesday, a Sarasota Police spokesperson said. Officers were at the scene and a Bayflite helicopter has landed, according to Genevieve Judge, police spokesperson.

"The northbound lanes are expected to be closed for at least two to three hours while officers investigate the crash," Judge said in a media release.

There was no immediate word on any injuries.
