University Parkway Closing Announced
A detour is planned in the area of University Parkway and Interstate 75.

SARASOTA, FL — Motorists who use University Parkway to get around may want to take different routes Tuesday night or prepare for a detour in their travels.
According to the Florida Department of Transportation, the contractor working on the I-75/University Parkway Diverging Diamond Interchange has announced the need to close off a section of University Parkway. The closing will involve the eastbound lanes of University Parkway near the I-75 interchange. It will take place starting around 10 p.m. May 9 and is anticipated to last until 6 a.m. Wednesday. The detour is necessary for paving operations, FDOT said.
The following detours have been announced:

- For motorists heading east on University Parkway – Motorists who wish to travel east through the I-75 interchange will need to head southbound on I-75, exit at Fruitville Road, reenter northbound I-75 and then exit again onto University Parkway.
- For motorists traveling south on I-75 – Those wishing to head east on University Parkway after getting off I-75 are asked to take the Fruitville Road exit and then get back on I-75 northbound. Drivers can exit from northbound I-75 at University Parkway and travel east.
Work on the diverging diamond interchange is expected to wrap up this fall.
