Weekend Things: Audrey Landers Headlines T&A Soiree

Audrey Landers, who was in the film version of "A Chorus Line" will be at a special fundraiser for The Players Theatre featuring its cast of the play.

1. It's a three-day weekend for some of us so here's something to enjoy President's Day. Audrey Landers, who played Afton Cooper on Dallas and was in the film version of A Chorus Line will be the guest of honor at The Players Theatre's T&A Soiree at 7 p.m. Monday at the theater. There will also be performances by Landers'  sister Judy, mother Ruth and son Daniel and by the cast of A Chorus Line. Tickets cost $65 or $100 for two and proceeds benefit the theater

2. Go see Next Fall at Florida Studio Theatre this weekend. It's called a love story about belief. After an accident, an unlikely couple is forced to rely on family and friends for support. This portrait of contemporary romance examines faith, family and what it means to love while defining and accepting who we are. Plays Thursday, Friday, 8 pm.; Saturday, 2 pm and 8 pm. Sunday, 3 pm. and 8 pm. Tickets cost $29 to $32.

3. The annual New College Juried Student Art Exhibition continues this weekend and features a selection of artwork including sculpture, painting, drawing and printmaking. This year, 16 students are represented in the exhibition, which is on view in the New College of Florida Isermann Gallery. The exibit is free and is open weekdays 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

4. Sometimes you just need to hug a puppy. Southeastern Guide Dogs — Sarasota is offering free puppy hugs with eight-week old pups from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Southeastern Guide Dogs. The hugs are free, and the puppy memories are forever.

5. The Sarasota Ski-A-Rees continue its Sunday performances this weekend at the Ski-A-Rees Stadium at 1602 Ken Thompson Parkway, beside Mote Marine Laboratory and Aquarium. Performances are free and continue each Sunday through May 20. For more information, call 388-1666.
