Westcoast Black Theatre's 'Songbirds Of The '70s' Opens Wednesday

1. Time to warm up those vocal chords as will stage two original revues. Opening on Wednesday, will be Songbirds of the '70srunning through July 29. The second show is called The Fabulous Five opening on Wednesday, Aug. 22 through Sept. 2.
“It’s going to be another highly energetic, romantic and nostalgic summer for us,” Artistic Director Nate Jacobs said in a statement. “WBTT presents a variety of different productions during our main season that includes straight dramas, as well as musical revues and plays. In the summer we like to just kick back and have fun with the music of gone-by eras, music that many grew up with but that also has stood the test of time so it’s familiar."
Both of these shows are written and adapted by Jacobs. Tuesday through Saturday performances begin at 8 p.m. Sunday matinees are at 2 pm. All tickets are $29.50 and may be bought on line atwww.wbttsrq.org or by calling the box office at 941-366-1505.

2. Sarasota's City Commission's , but it appears that not all finalists want to be considered.
Daytona Beach City Manager Jim Chisholm and former McKinney, Texas, Manager Rick Chaffin declined, The Herald-Tribune reports. The city commission agreed last week to bring all four candidates back into consideration with the expectation that each commissioner would provide his or her second choice to help the commission come to a consensus.

That leaves former Oak Park (Ill.) Village Manager Thomas Barwin and West Palm Beach City Administrator Edward Mitchell. The commission meets at 2:30 p.m. today in City Hall.
3. Beginning today, Webber Street, between South Osprey Avenue and S. Tamiami Trail for a construction project.
Traffic calming improvements adjacent to will be made to the street, according to the City of Sarasota.
The road is expected to reopen Monday July 30.
4. Sarasota County Government's website will have a refreshed look starting today. You will still visit http://scgov.net to access the county's website.
5. A free community cleanup in the Lake Sarasota area will be held 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, July 21. Dumpsters will be provided by Waste Management at two locations:
• Tora Place and Brentford Road (northwest corner by Fire Station 8). Tires and appliances will be accepted at this site only.
• 7100 Lago Street (in front of Lakeview Paw Park).
At both sites, residents can dispose of most household items, yard waste, tree trimmings and other garbage or refuse. Auto parts, electronics, TVs and computers must be taken to 8750 Bee Ridge Road, Sarasota, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday-Saturday.
