What's Open And Closed In Sarasota On Christmas, New Year's Day

SARASOTA, FL — City hall will be closed on Monday Dec. 24, Tuesday, Dec. 25 and Tuesday Jan. 1 in observance of the Christmas and New Year’s Day holidays, according to city officials.

"Waste collection schedules will be affected by the holidays. There will be no garbage, recycling and yard waste pickup on Christmas Day or New Year’s Day and both collections will be made the following day," city officials announced. "All other scheduled pickups, including on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve, will be unaffected."

Some city recreation centers will also be operating on a special schedule or are planning special events over the holiday:

Arlington Park and Aquatic Center, 2650 Waldemere St., will be closed on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. It will have limited hours, from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., on New Year’s Eve.

Bobby Jones Golf Club, 1000 Circus Blvd., will be open on both Christmas and New Year's Day so golfers can try out their new clubs. The city-owned course will host the 11th Annual “Reindeer Games” on Christmas Day with an 8:45 a.m. shotgun start on the British Course. The American and Gillespie Executive courses will be open for 18-hole play from 6:30-9 a.m. and nine-hole play from 6:30-11 a.m. Christmas Day.

The Golf Shop will observe the following holiday schedule: 6:30 a.m.-11 a.m. Christmas Day; 6:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Christmas Eve, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.

Lido Pool, 400 Benjamin Franklin Drive, will be open for regular hours on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve (10 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.) and closed on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.

Payne Park Tennis Center, 2050 Adams Lane, will be closed Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. The facility will be open from 7:30 a.m. to noon on New Year’s Eve.

Robert L. Taylor Community Complex, 1845 34th St., will be closed Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. It will be open from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. New Year’s Eve.

Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall Box Office, 777 N. Tamiami Trail, will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Christmas Eve. The box office will be closed on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.

• Christmas Day: Tuesday, Dec. 25
• New Year’s Eve: Monday, Dec. 31
• New Year’s Day: Tuesday, Jan. 1

Note: The last day to pay property taxes with the 3 percent discount is
Monday, Dec. 31. However, due to the Dec. 31 closing, the
Sarasota County Tax Collector’s Office will accept tax payments with
the 3 percent discount in person only on Wednesday, Jan. 2. If you are
unable to pay in person, you can still meet the 3 percent discount deadline by
postmarking your payment no later than Dec. 31 or by paying at
www.SarasotaTaxCollector.com by 11:59 p.m. on Dec 31.
