Sarasota administrative offices will be closed Thursday, July 4, in observance of Independence Day. But not everything will be shut down.

SARASOTA, FL — Sarasota administrative offices will be closed Thursday, July 4, in observance of Independence Day. But not everything will be shut down for the holiday.

Residential garbage, recycling and yard waste pickup will be delayed one day. Thursday collection will take place on Friday, July 5, and Friday collection will take place on Saturday, July 6.

Some recreation and cultural arts facilities will be open while others will be closed:

  • Arlington Park and Aquatic Complex will be closed. The complex is located at 2650 Waldemere St.
  • Bobby Jones Golf Club will operate on a regular schedule from: 6:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The club is located at 1000 Circus Blvd.
  • Children’s Fountain at Bayfront Park, Ringling Boulevard and Bayfront Drive will be closed.
  • Lido Pool will be operate on a regular schedule from 10 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. The pool is located at 400 Benjamin Franklin Drive.
  • Payne Park Tennis Center will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. The center is located at 2050 Adams Lane.
  • Robert L. Taylor Community Complex will be open from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. The complex is located at 1845 John Rivers Street.
  • Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall, including the box office, will be closed. The hall is located at 777 N. Tamiami Trail.

Parking will be free in all city-operated parking garages and metered spaces on July 4. Time restrictions for on-street parking will not be enforced on the holiday.

The city’s new downtown parking program will begin the week of July 8 after the holiday weekend.

In addition to new pay stations and traditional pole-mount meters , motorists will have the option of using the ParkMobile app to pay for parking from a mobile device. The same system was installed at the St. Armands Parking District earlier this year. There will also be hundreds of free parking spaces downtown.
