Will Super Boat Grand Prix Return?

Sarasota County officials have refused a funding request by the Suncoast Super Boat Grand Prix, the Sarasota Herald Tribune reports.

Suncoast Charities for Children asked the Sarasota County Commission for $100,000 to launch its annual 10-day Super Boat Grand Prix Festival.

The county instead offered $28,500, according to the Sarasota Herald Tribune.

The festival of speed and wake brings big crowds to Sarasota, but it is not the money maker it has been for the last 15 years.

Although the $28,500 that the county offered Tuesday is more than its funding in 2012, organizers say that it is not enough. The event helps to raise money for special needs children in Sarasota County.
