Will You Try Domino's New Pan Pizza?

Domino's idea is no big pizza pie in the sky—it's going after Pizza Hut in a renewed pizza wars.

The battle of the chain pizza shops is back.

Domino's is continuing its overhauled image and pizza operation by launching pan pizzas today, which is the popular type of pie that you'll find at Pizza Hut.

Domino's already rolled out new recipes and unveiled an updated logo, too, to help refresh the brand.

So, what exactly is a pan pizza? It's like a smaller, no-frills deep dish pizza.

Demographically, the pizza would be most popular for 35-to-44-year-old men in the Midwest and Northeast, which could revive the pizza chain, USA Today reports:

Now, after twice trying and failing with pan pizza, Domino's is swinging for the fences with its biggest competitive move since relaunching its hand-tossed pizza with a new recipe. A medium Domino's Handmade Pan Pizza, with two toppings, will initially sell for $7.99.

"There are a lot of people out there who love pan pizza," says Patrick Doyle, CEO at Domino's. One of five pizzas sold nationally is a pan pizza. "Now, we're going to be a player."

It all kind of makes me miss the Domino's Avoid The Noid and the Little Caesars' guy at the end of those commercials. Though Saturday Night Live nearly had a keeper a few years ago with a fake Donald Trump commercial. By the way, Little Caesars also sells pan pizzas, so it's no wonder that Domino's is trying to catch up.
